LEBANON TOURS

Lebanon tours offer the adventurous traveller a great place to visit, both as a standalone destination or combined with other Middle East countries to make a more comprehensive tour of the region. From the capital city of Beirut, to the stunning Roman ruins at Baalbeck, to the ancient hippodrome and mosaic streets of Tyre, there is plenty to see and do in Lebanon. For the more active visitor, there is great skiing and trekking in the mountains along with scuba diving, snorkelling and many other popular watersports.

The cosmopolitan capital Beirut is an ideal base for a tour to Lebanon, and is widely regarded as one of the liveliest cities in the world. Theatres, pubs and restaurant abound and the unique nightlife can be a highlight of any holiday to Lebanon. From here it's easy to make excursions into the surrounding countryside. To the north sits the coastal city of Tripoli, famous for its old covered souks, selling olive oil-based soaps and sweets. To the east are the amazingly well preserved Roman ruins of Baalbek, most notable for the enormous temple of Bacchus. To the south lies the ancient city of Tyre, a prime location for snorkelling and scuba diving, with many interesting underwater archaeological ruins to explore. It is also home to one of the largest Roman hippodromes ever discovered.

Lebanon is a beautiful country located in Western Asia. It is bordered by Syria to the north and east, Israel to the south, and Cyprus to the west across the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon's location at the crossroads of the Mediterranean Basin and the Arabian hinterland has contributed to its rich history and shaped a cultural identity of religious diversity.

Lebanon is a parliamentary democracy that includes confessionalism, in which high-ranking offices are reserved for members of specific religious groups. The president, for example, has to be a Maronite Christian, the prime minister a Sunni Muslim, the parliament a Shi'a Muslim, the deputy prime minister and the deputy speaker of parliament Eastern Orthodox. This system is intended to deter sectarian conflict and to represent fairly the demographic distribution of the 18 recognized religious groups in government.

Lebanon is a unique country in the Middle East in that it is home to people of many different religions. This religious diversity is respected and tolerated by the Lebanese government, as evidenced by the fact that there has not been a national census conducted since 1932 to avoid sensitive issues regarding the relative sizes of different religions and religious sects. There are 18 state-recognized religious sects in Lebanon: four Muslim, 12 Christian, one Druze, and one Jewish. The Druze are counted as part of the Muslim population by the Lebanese government, even though most Druze today do not identify as Muslim.

This tolerant attitude towards different religions is one of the many things that makes Lebanon a special and welcoming place for tourists from all over the world.

  • If you’re planning on driving in Lebanon, here are some tips to help you stay safe on the roads.

    1.  Drive defensively. Be aware of your surroundings and anticipate what other drivers might do.
    2. Drive slowly and be cautious. Lebanon’s roads can be narrow and winding, so it’s important to take your time and drive carefully.
    3. Be aware of road conditions. Lebanon’s roads can be in poor condition, so it’s important to pay attention to the condition of the road and be prepared for pot holes and other obstacles.
